Matthew McConaughey is Surfer Dude

Posted in Movie Review at 1:03 pm by puditsi

Matthew McConaughey is an underrated actor. Yes, he’s appeared in some bad flicks, no debate there… but he, as a performer, is usually gold. Some people like to argue that… but those people are dumb. :) Matthew’s newest project that he’s just signed up for is “Surfer Dude”. Oh man… what a stupid title. So what is Surfer Dude about? Well, here’s all Matthew’s website has to say about it: Matthew’s next starring role will be as Steve Addington in Surfer, Dude — which is also a j.k. livin production. It starts production May 7, 2007. It’s about a surfer who loves to surf. Whoaaa…. easy… information over load. But I’ll say this, even though I’m not the biggest fan of light romantic comedies… I usually end up enjoying the ones he is in (aside from Failure to Launch which just sucked). So maybe this one could be a winner. But man I hope they change that title. As an aside… here are my 5 favorite Matthew McConaughey films: 1) Amistad 2) Frailty 3) A Time To Kill 4) EdTV (yes I liked this one) 5) How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days

Sigourney Weaver Dashes Ghostbuster and Aliens Sequel Talk
I’ve got a world of respect for Sigourney Weaver. I truly stuns me that this woman doesn’t get more credit for her pure acting ability than she actually gets. Oh sure, a lot of people talk big about love for Aliens and such… but her really strong performances often get over looked. Oh well… I guess that can happen when you’re part of a massively successful franchise. Anyway, there has been a lot of talk recently about Weaver and new Ghostbusters and Aliens films. But whilw going out and about talking about Avatar, Weaver dismissed any rumors about her personal involvement in them… or if they’ll happen at all. Cinematical gives us this: Regarding [Aliens], fortunately Weaver tells The Desert Sun, “I love the character, but I think the monster, once they did the other film (Alien vs. Predator), which I never saw, but that really maxes our monster out.” But what about Ghostbusters? Apparently, Dan Aykroyd is keen on doing some sort of CGI-based third installment. Well, according to Weaver, that’s not going to happen either; at least, not with her: “I think all of us are busy doing so many things and it’s wonderful all the films are so well loved and they certainly were fun to do. But I think if you do it right the first time, sometime it’s better to move on to something else.” Now just because she won’t be involved in them doesn’t necessarily mean there won’t be more Ghostbuster or Alien films at all… but it’s too bad if she’s not. Ghostbusters without here just seems a bit empty to me. But I’m sure it’ll be fine. Oh wait… no it won’t… it’s a horrible idea to start with.

THE DEPARTED by Martin Scorsese
Two men in the Boston State Police, Billy Costigan (Leonardo Di Caprio) and Colin Sullivan (Matt Damon) - each of them is undercover. Billy is officially evicted from the police acadamy, jailed for a short time and planted undercover in Irish crime-lord Frank Costello’s (Jack Nicholson) gang. Only two men know Billy’s identity - […]

Sacha Baron Cohen Refuses To Present At The Oscars As Himself
I’m not sure what I think about this one. First, read what the good folks at IMDB tell us: Sacha Baron Cohen will not be a presenter at Sunday’s Academy Award ceremony, because he could not appear as his famous character Borat Sagdiyev. Baron Cohen has been reluctant to make appearances as himself, preferring to do interviews as the star of the faux documentary Borat: Cultural Learnings Of America For Make Benefit Glorious Nation Of Kazakhstan. Oscar broadcast producer Laura Ziskin tells the Los Angeles Times, “He was asked, but he declined.” On the one hand I think “Oh come on! Let the guy present as Borat! It’ll be funny, people will laugh and it will be a memorable moment”. But on the other hand I also think: “Oh come on Cohen! Drop the “my way or no way” attitude and just acceptthe honor of presenting at the Oscars as yourself… you know… like all the other performers are doing”. I can see both sides here… but this may surprise you… I’m actually siding with the Oscars here. Yes, I wish they had let Cohen just present as Borat, but I think that would steal the spotlight away from the category and whoever the winner is. And that should be THEIR moment, not Borat’s. Still, I’d like to see Borat up there. But so what… they said “no”. So just go up and present as yourself. Present as Sacha Baron Cohen, the performer. Oh well… either way the show loses. Too bad.

Avatar Gets A Release Date And George Lucasitis
Seems like we’ve been waiting forever for James Cameron to come out of his Titanic shell and give us another movie. Now has got 2 projects on the go, and first up to bat is Avatar, and we’ve got a release date! Memorial day 2009. Coming Soon gives us this: With a cast that includes Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana and Sigourney Weaver, Cameron’s sci-fi epic is about a wounded ex-marine, thrust unwillingly into an effort to settle and exploit an exotic planet rich in bio-diversity, who eventually crosses over to lead the indigenous race in a battle for survival. With films like Terminator, Aliens, Abyss and True Lies under his belt (oh yeah, not to mention the biggest grossing film of all time), you can understand a LOT of people being stoked about Avatar. BUT… at the some time some people are nervous. A lot of people wonder if Cameron, who has been away from the director’s chair for so long, might suffer from “George Lucasitis”. A rare condition where a brilliant filmmaker forgets how to direct a damn movie after a long absence from the director’s chair. So far, no one has noticed James Cameron showing any symptoms of “George Lucasitis”, but the condition can come on fast and cripple a directors career in just 1 film. Doctors are keeping an eye on him.
